When one diets a Chiric Sanango or Uchu Sanango plant dieta , the standard isolation and dietary restrictions apply. For each dose, three large roots are peeled and the shavings are soaked in water for up to 8 hours. The dose is administered at 3am for the first three days of the diet. Our curandero will place an arcana protection on the dieter for the duration of the isolation. Mapacho smoke is often used throughout the diet to cleanse and center the dieter. A strict meal diet is followed which consists only of: rice, eggs, chicken, and plantains. No salt or oil is added to any meal and every meal is prepared and delivered with love.

Restrictions differ depending on lineage, tradition and beliefs, however similarities exist. There is limited contact and communication with others, hence the strict seclusion and isolation in the jungle. Entertainment such as music and reading are prohibited. Traditional post-dieta protocols follow the same guidelines, anywhere from 3 to 30 days perhaps even more after the conclusion of working with the plants. I spent nine days adhering to a similar structure, working with both Ayahuasca and my master plant, Chiric Sanango, listening to and learning what the plants had to teach me.
Chiric Sanango Diet
That seems to be what life is all about after all. Chiric sanango is an extremely hard root. It was the toughest wood I have ever encountered. My attempts to use a knife to scrape shavings from the root proved too dangerous — I almost cut myself with the amount of force I was putting into it. Since the knife proved too dangerous, I tried using a file first stone, then a metal file in an attempt to get some powdered root instead.
The Shaman and Healers of Peru have access to an entire pharmacy of natural resources and have learned to use them with the depth and potency that Mother Ayahuasca herself is so famous for. When used in the right way this pretty shrub becomes a mammoth force of spiritual healing and is not to be taken lightly. I undertook an 8 day traditional dieta where I was isolated in a small hut in the forest, eating very simple starches only with no salt or oil and drinking rather large doses of the plant every other day. My intention behind this dieta was two fold. Firstly I had some issues with my ankle and knee joints including arthritis from an old injury. Chiric is famed for helping with joint pain. I felt that Chiric wanted to work with me and the impulse was quite strong. As I am in a shamanic apprenticeship it is necessarry to work my way through various plant medicines so as to commune with them and learn from them so I can support others when they are taking the plant themselves.
