Two cheerleaders at Bothell High School, near Seattle, were suspended from the squad after school officials learned nude cell phone pictures of the girls were circulating throughout the student body, via text message. Now, the girls' parents are suing the Northshore School District, alleging school officials acted inappropriately while reprimanding the cheerleaders and failed to go after the students who actually sent the photos. One was suspended for 30 days and the other for the whole school year.

By Hannah Withiam. The older team members then blindfolded them, placed them in cars one by one and brought them inside an empty house, the two members said. One said she was forced inside of a washing machine, while the other said she was put in a cardboard box and jostled around as they banged on the sides. Then led into another room, they said they were asked a number of questions, and for each question they answered incorrectly, they were required to remove an article of clothing. Eventually standing there naked, the six cheerleaders allegedly were taken into another room, while one of them said she remembered being separated from the group. The incident has left the two cheerleaders emotionally traumatized, they said, leading one to leave the school permanently.

When the Washington Redskins took their cheerleading squad to Costa Rica in for a calendar photo shoot, the first cause for concern among the cheerleaders came when Redskins officials collected their passports upon arrival at the resort, depriving them of their official identification. For the photo shoot, at the adults-only Occidental Grand Papagayo resort on Culebra Bay, some of the cheerleaders said they were required to be topless, though the photographs used for the calendar would not show nudity. Others wore nothing but body paint.
The concept of cheerleading is a pretty amazing one. They are like a cold beer on a Sunday afternoon for NFL football. Similarly, they are like a beer on a Saturday night while watching a UFC event. I guess what I'm trying to say is that much like the icing on the proverbial cake, cheerleaders take a sporting event and make it so much more via the addition of gorgeous, fit, gyrating women. With all that said however, they aren't a necessity in the NFL for example. The game can function without them, but they absolutely add something pretty wonderful. As such, they get paid next to nothing. So much that it is a minor issue in the media as these wonderful ladies try to get their pay up to a decent level.
